Michigan Sentiment measures consumer confidence and is conducted by the University of Michigan. A preliminary report is released on the 10th of each month excluding weekends. A final report is released on the first of the month. Michigan Sentiment is important because consumer confidence gauges how much consumers will spend which affects Gross Domestic Product (GDP) significantly. Consumer spending is the most important part of the economy accounting for more than 60% of GDP.
