New Home Sales

New Home Sales

The New Homes Sales Report is published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Currently Erica Filipek an Stehpen Cooper are authoring the report. The report is an estimate from sample surveys. They are subject to sampling variability. The report is based on a sample of houses selected from building permits. Preliminary new home sales are subject to revision due to the nature of a survey data vs. actual data. New home sales are a total of new homes constructed with a commitment from a buyer for the past month. Housing is a indicator of the health of the U.S. consumer. U.S. consumers buy less new homes when they lack confidence in the economy. This leads to a decline in household goods and other related spending.

New Home Sales reports the sales of privately owned one-family houses sold and for sale. New home sales is a strong barometer as to the health of the U.S. economy. Raw data can be found here.
